Clearly your body is your thing, but on the other hand it is also highly political: The current biopolitical bodies overcome and redesign established social categories. But the possibility of self-regulation and administration also subjects our bodies to utilization logics. In our fast-paced performance society it is becoming increasingly important to be even more beautiful, healthier or more perfect. The body becomes the capital and an object to be consumed at the free market. Advertising propagates beauty ideals, genetic engineering shifts the basic conditions of being human, everyone bears individual responsibility through the choice of lifestyle, companies trade in biometric data. But every human comes in an individual and unique body. Every single one is equally worthy of protection. In our this years LAB* BODY we will engage in different artistic and discursive ways with our own and other bodies in order to recapture them.
