Tightly constructed beats and Anna’s insistent, vulnerable voice makes up the core of a powerful and raw sound universe, where organic organ and instrumental improvisation gives the musical expression character and soul. The music is heartfelt – doesn’t tie itself to a specific genre but explores the space between R&B, pop, blues, electro and dubstep with an oriental twist and soulful warmth.

Bebetta https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/bebetta/ https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/bebetta/#respond Wed, 09 Jan 2019 10:39:45 +0000 https://artlake-festival.de/?p=3297 Mehr Erfahren]]> May we introduce you to Bremen’s charming BEBETTA. For 11 years she has been doing her thing with a name loosely taken from the English words ‘be better’. It’s all about community, about bringing people of all color and creeds together and about freeing up minds and engaging them on a natural and spiritual level. Her considered sound touches on house and tech with a real focus on melody, driving drums and emotional sensitivity and the DJ’s own personality always manages to shine through in the sets she lays down.

Die Nerven https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/die-nerven/ https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/die-nerven/#respond Tue, 08 Jan 2019 10:01:38 +0000 https://artlake-festival.de/?p=3258 Mehr Erfahren]]> FAKE is a buzzword of our time and in this sense also title of the highly anticipated latest album of DIE NERVEN – a German-speaking post-punk 3-piece with a penchant for gloom and nihilism. Their songs are much about inner and outer crises, about paralysis, lack of power and disorientation. The political finds its space in a rather abstract manner, expressing itself much more in a feeling. Life comes in waves and therefore you need nerves. And this summer, they finally pass by our live stage to “defend their title as the best German live band”. Can’t wait.

Dream Wife https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/dream-wife/ https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/dream-wife/#respond Mon, 07 Jan 2019 10:21:59 +0000 https://artlake-festival.de/?p=3263 Mehr Erfahren]]> Since transitioning from a performance art project to an actual band, word has spread widely about the jaw-dropping live shows of Londons DREAM WIFE.
Their sound is as pummeling as it is hooky, a potent mix of art-school sensibility and bubblegum pop adoration. Art punks making music that’s roiling with feminist rage and Spice Girls attitude and while fun is a key factor in Dream Wife’s appeal, they want to challenge you as well as social rules and question them. Their dose of politicized anger is rooted in personal experience. The trio is on their constant mission to create more woman-friendly spaces in music. For Dream Wife, “bitches to the front” is more than concert policy: It’s a promise.

Madanii https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/madanii/ https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/madanii/#respond Sun, 06 Jan 2019 10:25:20 +0000 https://artlake-festival.de/?p=3267 Mehr Erfahren]]> The German-Iranian singer MADANII will join us for this years edition. Combining Pop, R’n’B, Trap and electronic elements and enriching them with Persian sound samples, the duo creates organically gloomy sound structures that textually deal primarily with her origin and our politically heated present. A multi-dimensional performance, that plays musically as well as visually with the contrasts of the supposedly “foreign” as well as the “conventional“.

In their luggage they have their last album, which they have dedicated to Berlin. Between punk, indie pop and retro German rock, the band analyzes their fascination as well as their own tense relationship to the city. In the process, the glorious times and today’s significant changes in the city, such as the disappearance of creative free space, are critically reflected. An attempt to retake the shamed fancy, crazy, sexy advertising word “Berlin” and to prove it with their own stories.

Odd Couple https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/odd-couple/ https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/odd-couple/#respond Fri, 04 Jan 2019 10:32:01 +0000 https://artlake-festival.de/?p=3273 Mehr Erfahren]]> Googling the trio ODD COUPLE, Wikipedia spits out the following: Their songs serve a difficult-to-limit number of genres. Indeed! They mix krautrock with dada, psychedelic rap and rock with sparkling glam and exploding riffs. Its exactly these pairings of odd contrasts, province and metropolis, local and cosmopolitan, German and English lyrics, restrained-cool attitude and driving music, which are immensely fun and you do not get to hear often in such a vigorous directness. An uncompromising energetic live band with East Frisian understatement at this years Artlake Festival. „Haste Strom, haste Licht“

Stas https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/stas/ https://artlake-festival.de/2019/01/stas/#respond Wed, 02 Jan 2019 12:42:41 +0000 https://artlake-festival.de/?p=3327 Mehr Erfahren]]> We are stoked our talented friend Stas is flying over from Budapest for this years Artlake Festival. He got involved with music first as a guitar player throughout elementary school. Being a fan of punk rock music during his teens It was a true game changer for him to discover that with the help of a digital audio workstation he could program all the instruments he could have ever wished for all by himself without an actual band. This was the moment he began experimenting with electronic music. Music production is ever since his tool to create the kind of music he didn’t find and wanted to listen to. Today Stas is one of the most active promoters of the tropical and global bass scene in Hungary and founder of Babylon Records delivering forward thinking music and artists worldwide.
His production is inspired by African, Middle-Eastern, Asian and South-American tribal music’s instrumentation and articulation which is then mixed with contemporary electronic music. The result is an exotic fusion of melodies, percussion and bass.

The free scene of music and art in its various facets belongs here and shapes the city’s identity. He uses his everyday life here as an inspiration. Hanging with friends and experiencing the other side, the dance floor, diving deep into the feelings people have while enjoying Berlin’s progressive club culture is what gives him ideas and motivation for his own productions.

Along with her melancholically voice and her spheric sound she’s creating her own mental safe space. A place where one can decelerate and sort ones thought new, were it is just fine to be vulnerable.
